A massive scuffle erupted at the NDA workers’ conference held on Saturday in the Chakai Assembly constituency of Jamui district, Bihar. Supporters of Bihar government minister Sumit Kumar Singh and former MLC Sanjay Prasad clashed during the event, which took place at the sports ground in Batia Dahiyari, Sono block.
According to sources, supporters of Minister Sumit Singh were continuously chanting slogans in his favor. This reportedly angered former MLC Sanjay Prasad, who questioned from the stage, “On what grounds is Sumit Singh present on this stage while he is an independent legislator?” Following this statement, arguments broke out between the two camps, quickly escalating into a physical fight.
The situation worsened, prompting police intervention to calm both sides. Removing the supporters from the stage proved challenging for police and the leaders’ security personnel. Reports said that supporters resorted to punching, kicking, and even using party flags as sticks during the melee, making it difficult for law enforcement to restore order.
After the incident, Sanjay Prasad told the media, “Our loyalty and that of our supporters to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains steadfast.” He also clarified that he intends to contest the upcoming elections on a JDU ticket.
The exact cause of the clash remains unclear. Some sources suggest it was related to speeches delivered during the event, while others believe it stemmed from internal political rivalry over seats and party tickets. Sanjay Prasad’s public questioning of Minister Sumit Singh’s presence on the stage intensified the dispute.
The incident highlights growing internal differences within the NDA and ongoing tensions regarding ticket distribution. Similar disputes had previously erupted at NDA worker meetings in Aurangabad and Nabinagar, raising questions about the alliance’s unity ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
In the wake of the chaos, NDA leaders have reportedly called a meeting at the JDU headquarters on Sunday to review the incident and discuss future strategies.
This clash could impact NDA’s cohesion and strategy in the forthcoming elections, further intensifying internal political maneuvering within the alliance.
