Custodial Killing of Nasir Shah in Vaishali: RJD & Congress Fact-Finding Teams Visit, Massive Protest Erupts in Patna

Insaaf Times Desk

The custodial death of Mohammad Nasir Shah in Vaishali district’s Raja Pakad police station area, Chosima-Kalyanpur village, is rapidly snowballing into a major political issue. The incident, which took place on September 5, has triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties RJD and Congress, who have accused the state government and police administration of brutality and demanded a high-level probe along with compensation for the victim’s family.

According to local residents, the police conducted a raid in the village on September 5 following a minor dispute, detaining several people. Allegations have emerged that Mohammad Nasir Shah, belonging to the Muslim Fakir (Extremely Backward Class) community, died while in police custody.

On Saturday, Dr. Anwar Alam, state president of RJD’s Minority Wing, staged a protest in Patna by burning an effigy of the Chief Minister. He asserted that Nasir Shah’s death was the direct result of police excesses, calling it a “stain on the state administration.” RJD’s 10-member fact-finding committee submitted its report on Friday, questioning the role of the police. Party leaders warned that if no action is taken against those responsible, they will move court and make the issue central to their election campaign.

Congress has also joined the chorus, with its state president of the Extremely Backward Class Wing, Shashi Bhushan Pandit, visiting the village along with his fact-finding team. In a social media statement, he alleged that the police deliberately gave a communal twist to a minor dispute, arrested Nasir Shah, and killed him inside the police station. The Congress has demanded the hanging of the SHO and strict punishment for other officials involved.

The incident has left the village tense, with locals claiming that even innocent residents were targeted by the police. Nasir Shah’s family remains adamant in their demand for justice and compensation.

Both RJD and Congress have declared that their agitation will continue until the guilty are punished and justice is delivered to the victim’s family. Meanwhile, the government’s silence has come under heavy criticism, with opposition pressure mounting on the administration.
