Urdu Language Facing Discrimination: Mohammad Rafi, Preparations Underway for Movement

Insaaf Times Desk

A meeting of the Qaumi Asaatiza Tanzim was held on Sunday at the Patahi Training College campus in Muzaffarpur. During the meeting, Mohammad Rafi, the Bihar state coordinator of the organization, stated that Urdu is being discriminated against by labeling it as the language of Muslims, whereas it represents India’s shared heritage and culture.

Rafi alleged that there are systematic attempts to marginalize Urdu education in Bihar. Initially, non-Urdu-speaking teachers were appointed in Urdu schools, and now non-Urdu-speaking headmasters and principals have been assigned, which is having a severe impact on the Urdu education system.

He added that in Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and Saharsa districts, several Urdu high schools have been instructed to remain open on Fridays and closed on Sundays. Meanwhile, in Muzaffarpur, Sunday weekly holidays have been implemented without any government order. Rafi described this as a disregard for the sentiments of the Urdu language and the Muslim community.

Rafi further alleged that in many primary Urdu schools, applications written in Urdu are not accepted, and leaves are denied on this basis. He condemned the ban on writing answers in Urdu in board and plus-two examinations, calling it a violation of tradition and the right to education.

The meeting resolved to launch a movement to protect Urdu language and literature. Mohammad Imtiaz Alam, the organization’s media in-charge, said that a large public awareness program would soon be organized in Satria Block under the banner of “Tehreek Tahaffuz Urdu Zuban-o-Adab” (Movement for the Protection of Urdu Language and Literature).

Qaiser Ansari, who presided over the meeting, said that Urdu textbooks and question papers do not reach schools on time. He announced that a delegation from the organization would meet the Block Education Officer to submit a memorandum demanding that Urdu experts be made mandatory in all Urdu-related work.

Several teachers attended the meeting, including Mohammad Mubarak Hussain, Mohammad Haroon, Anwar Kamal, Mahboob Alam, and Mansoor Alam.
