The girl was first admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh, from where she was admitted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after her health deteriorated, where she died on September 29 during treatment. The girl’s body was cremated on the intervening night of 29/30 September, by the police without even showing her face to the family, by forcibly pouring petrol and setting it afire. There was a lot of uproar in the country, also seen was the misbehavior of political and social leaders. When Siddiqui Kappan’s mother died, he was not granted bail. infact he is still in prison citing another ED case pending. While student leader Atiqur Rahman, who was arrested with Siddiq, He was a heart patient. Despite this, he is still in prison. Although four upper castes accused from the village are in jail for this crime. The media of the country and abroad had covered the incident and a serious debate broke out about the condition of Dalits in India. But even after two years, the roots of casteism in this village are visible more deeper than before. According to the BBC, the victim’s family alleges that they are still facing casteism. The dead girl’s brother tells the BBC that “the village now has more disdain for her family than ever before”. Even today such incidents are being seen in different states.
