Leader of the Opposition and National Janata Dal (RJD) chief, Mr. Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, made several historic announcements in Patna during a press conference regarding plans for contract workers and JEEVIKA “didis” (community mobilizers) if his government comes to power in Bihar.
Tejashwi Yadav criticized the current double-engine government, calling it inefficient and corrupt, accusing it of continuously exploiting JEEVIKA didis and contract employees. He announced that under his government, the “Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana” would be implemented. Under this scheme, JEEVIKA CMs would be made permanent employees with government status, receiving a monthly salary of ₹30,000.
Additionally, loans taken by JEEVIKA group didis would be waived off, they would receive interest-free loans for two years, and a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 would be provided for participation in other government activities. CLF, VO, and group presidents and treasurers would also receive remuneration. Over five years, each didi could receive up to ₹1.5 lakh under this scheme.
Tejashwi Yadav also announced major initiatives for women. He said the BETI and MAA schemes would be introduced to ensure that daughters are supported from birth through education and employment. Special arrangements would also be made for mothers regarding housing, food, and income.
He further announced that contract employees across the state would be made permanent. Yadav alleged that some corrupt officials hire employees on contracts to collect commissions, but under his government, contract workers would be regularized, and unfair deductions such as 18% GST on salaries would be stopped.
The press conference was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, national spokesperson Prof. Naval Kishore Yadav, former MLA Dr. Anwar Alam, state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed, Sarika Paswan, Madhu Manjari, state general secretary Mukund Singh, and other dignitaries.
Tejashwi Yadav’s announcements are being seen as a major election agenda for the Mahagathbandhan in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
