Ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the political atmosphere in the Sursand Assembly constituency has heated up. Once again, the main contest is expected between the Mahagathbandhan candidate and former MLA Abu Dujana, and the Janata Dal (United) candidate. In the ongoing electoral discussions, the development works carried out during Abu Dujana’s previous term are being highlighted prominently.
According to government and local sources, development projects worth over ₹1,300 crore were approved or completed during Abu Dujana’s 2015–2020 tenure. These projects include the construction and improvement of rural and connecting roads, repair of deteriorated bridges, boundary wall construction for a local madrasa and a temple, along with the establishment of a public library. Additionally, there are claims of reduced corruption and administrative hurdles in local government offices during this period.
The Sursand region lies close to the Nepal border and is frequently affected by floods caused by the Bagmati and Adhwara rivers. Flood protection measures, improvement of roads and bridges, access to clean water, adequate healthcare and education facilities, and employment opportunities have long been central issues for the electorate. Due to the absence of major industries, a large number of local youth migrate outside the state for work.
Electorally, the constituency is influenced significantly by Yadav, Muslim, and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) voters, while Rajput and other upper-caste communities also hold a notable presence. Political parties are working on strategies to mobilize their respective vote bases and maintain social balance.
In recent public interactions, discussions have centered on development achievements, permanent solutions to flooding, and employment opportunities as key factors influencing voter decisions. A central question among locals is whether Abu Dujana should be given another chance based on his previous performance or if voters should opt for a new candidate.
The final outcome will depend on which candidate succeeds in presenting clear and practical plans to address these long-standing issues.
