Nurshid Alam of Supaul district was brutally attacked by a mob in Chakdah village, Madhubani district, over allegations of not raising a religious slogan. Severely injured, Alam has still not regained the ability to speak. Even ten days after the incident, the government and administration have made no effort to meet the victim’s family or provide compensation.

Today, a state-level team led by Comrade Mahboob Alam, Central Committee member of CPI(ML) and former leader of the party’s legislative group, visited Shankarpur village in Basantpur block, Supaul, to meet Nurshid Alam and his family. During the visit, the team demanded Rs 20 lakh in compensation from the government and called for the immediate arrest and strict punishment of the perpetrators.

Mahboob Alam warned that if the state government failed to take swift action, CPI(ML) would be forced to launch a militant protest.

The inspection team included Comrade Jaynarayan Yadav, Supaul district secretary of CPI(ML); Comrade Achhelal Mehta, district president of the All India Kisan Mahasabha; Comrade Janmajay Rai, district secretary of KHEGRAMS; Comrade Sabir Sahab of Insaf Manch; CPI(ML) candidate from Pipra assembly constituency Comrade Anil Kumar; and Comrade Arvind Kumar Sharma, CPI(ML) leader and ACTU district secretary.

KHEGRAMS and Insaf Manch also organized demonstrations and protest marches in support of the victim’s family. The leaders demanded that the government put an end to politics of hatred and communal violence.
