Serious questions have been raised over the safety of female students living and studying in girls’ hostels in the state capital, Patna. Amid revelations surrounding the death of a NEET aspirant from Jehanabad, another case of a suspicious death has surfaced—this time involving a 15-year-old student from Goh in Aurangabad district. Both incidents occurred in the first week of January 2026. The families have outrightly rejected the suicide theory, alleging conspiracy and murder.
The student from Goh (name changed to Nisha) was staying at a girls’ hostel located on Exhibition Road in Patna while preparing for NEET. On January 6, 2026, the hostel management informed her family that the student had died by suicide. Upon receiving the information, her father rushed to Patna, where he found his daughter’s body in the emergency ward of PMCH.
In the FIR lodged at Gandhi Maidan police station, the victim’s father alleged that his daughter had been continuously mentally harassed by two adult men. He claimed that the accused used to harass her and pressure her into immoral activities. According to the father, the two men were present inside the student’s room without permission even on the day of the incident.
The father also questioned why the body was sent for post-mortem to the hospital even before he arrived, despite the fact that he was already present in Patna at the time he was informed of his daughter’s death. He said that the post-mortem report has not yet been provided to the family.
Family members further claimed that the ceiling fan, from which the student was allegedly found hanging, showed no damage or bending of the blades, even though the girl weighed around 45 kilograms. The father asserted that suicide was impossible in such circumstances and alleged that the body was removed in haste to destroy evidence.
According to the father, his daughter was admitted to the hostel on June 23, 2025. She had returned home on December 30 and was dropped back at the hostel on January 4 at around 2:30 pm. The last conversation with her took place at 9:30 am on January 6, during which she sounded completely normal.
In this case, besides the two youths, the hostel operator and one of the student’s friends have also been named as accused.
The victim’s mother said that on the day of the incident, her daughter had told her over the phone that she was going out of the hostel to eat eggs and would return soon. Shortly afterward, news of her death arrived. The mother said that the truth could come out if the hostel operator and the roommate are interrogated strictly.
Purnea MP Pappu Yadav visited the concerned girls’ hostel to assess the situation. He alleged that suspicious activities are taking place in several girls’ hostels in Patna and that the safety of female students is being openly compromised. He accused the government and the administration of serious negligence.
In connection with the case, FIR No. 09/26 has been registered at Gandhi Maidan police station, and the investigation has been assigned to SI Abhishek Kumar. The family is demanding a fair probe and justice. MP Pappu Yadav has demanded a CBI inquiry into the deaths of both NEET aspirants.
Notably, on January 5, a NEET student from Jehanabad had returned to a girls’ hostel in Patna. She was found unconscious under suspicious circumstances on January 6 and died during treatment on January 11, 2026. The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns over the safety and security arrangements in Patna’s girls’ hostels.
