The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) National Vice President Mohammad Shafi has demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of shielding electoral fraud.
In a press release, Shafi stated that disclosures by Karnataka’s CEO confirmed attempts to remove voters from the rolls using fake Form-7 submissions. In December 2022, over 6,018 applications were submitted through the ECI’s NVSP, VHA, and Garuda portals, primarily targeting OBC, SC, ST, and minority communities in Congress strongholds. While 5,994 applications were rejected, 2,494 voters had already been removed before the fraud could be stopped.
Shafi alleged that CEC Gyanesh Kumar refused to provide Karnataka CID with essential technical data, including IP addresses, OTP trails, and login details. He described this as a case of “digital booth capture and political fraud,” which could have impacted the results of the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.
The SDPI has called for an immediate investigation under Supreme Court supervision, the resignation of the CEC, release of the blocked data, and a full audit of the country’s voter register. The party warned that those responsible must face strict punishment to protect democracy from institutional fraud.
Shafi further stated that the issue is not limited to Karnataka. Widespread fraud was also reported in Maharashtra and Mahadevpura during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as well as in Kerala’s Thrissur region.
