Following the resounding victory of Janata Dal (United) in the Bihar Assembly elections, speculation is growing about the return of veteran leaders to the party. Among them, former Union Minister and Jan Suraj Party leader RCP Singh’s possible comeback to JDU is attracting significant attention.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, RCP Singh said, “Wait for the end of Kharmas; after that, everything will become clear.” He also clarified that there is no distance in his relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Recently, the Patel family organized a Chura-Dahi Bhoj in Patna, which was attended by both Nitish Kumar and RCP Singh. Although the two did not meet formally, RCP Singh praised the Chief Minister during his interaction with the media, stating that the people of Bihar appreciate Nitish Kumar. He added that he had attended the event on invitation from the Patel community.
When asked whether he would return to JDU, RCP Singh replied, “We are not two. We have been together for 25 years. Nitish Kumar and I know each other well. Whatever decision is made after Kharmas, it will become clear then.”
JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “Any decision regarding a return will be taken by the national leadership. But it is clear that Nitish Kumar’s personality is so influential that everyone wants to stand with him in times of crisis.”
RCP Singh, 67, a former IAS officer, was mentored by Nitish Kumar into politics. Within JDU, he held key positions, including Organisation General Secretary and National President. He later left the party over differences with Nitish Kumar, joined the BJP, and eventually formed his own party, which he recently merged with the Jan Suraj Party.
In the Bihar Assembly elections, RCP Singh’s daughter, Lata Singh, contested from Nalanda’s Asthawan seat on behalf of Jan Suraj Party but faced defeat. She secured 15,962 votes, finishing third, while JDU’s Jitendra Kumar won with 90,542 votes.
With all eyes now on the relationship between JDU and RCP Singh, political circles are abuzz with the question: Will RCP Singh return to JDU alongside Nitish Kumar once Kharmas ends?
