Press Club Honors Moulvi Baqir: 1857 Martyr & Urdu Journalist

Patna (Muhammad Faizan/Insaaf Times)In a solemn Sunday ceremony, Press Club of India paid tribute to Moulvi Baqir, a revered Urdu journalist and freedom fighter martyred during the 1857 rebellion. President Gautam Lehri led the event, unveiling Baqir’s iconic image on the club’s wall.

Azra Mousavi and Tarana Hussain from Aligarh Muslim University represented Baqir’s family. Gautam Lehri emphasized fostering Urdu journalism, urging active participation. Senior journalist A.U. Asif highlighted Baqir’s historical sacrifices against British oppression, underscoring the importance of his image in inspiring future journalists.

Chief guest K.C. Tyagi praised Baqir’s journalism relevance, hailing him as a rare gem. Historian Rana Safavi applauded Baqir as a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Congress leader Hidayatullah Gentil drew parallels between Baqir’s martyrdom and current challenges, emphasizing valuable lessons.

Sohail Anjum and Shoaib Raza Fatemi added depth to discussions on Baqir’s lasting impact. Ashraf Ali Bastavi expressed gratitude for commemorating Baqir’s life, stating the unveiled picture at the Press Club preserves the legacy of a freedom fighter, inspiring generations.
