Politics Surrounding Rabri Devi’s Move: JDU Suspects Basement and Secret Documents

A new controversy has emerged over the government residence of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi at 10 Circular Road, a political landmark in the state for the past 20 years. Photos and videos showing household items being loaded onto small vehicles from the residence since Thursday night have intensified the blame game in political circles.

Neeraj Kumar, chief spokesperson of Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal (United) [JDU], criticized the move, claiming that the government bungalow might contain a “basement and secret documents/treasure.” He demanded that the government conduct an excavation of the residence to verify these suspicions. Neeraj alleged that the night-time shifting of belongings raises questions about whether government property is being removed without proper documentation.

“This is government property purchased with the taxes of the poor. No one can take it away without due respect,” Neeraj said. He further claimed that, according to JDU, something might be hidden in the 10 Circular Road bungalow, which is why Rabri Devi is delaying vacating the residence.

Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Rabri Devi’s supporters have dismissed these allegations as politically motivated and untrue. The RJD clarified that there is no “treasure” or other secret items in the bungalow, describing such claims as part of opposition politics.

Amid the developments, Tej Pratap Yadav stated that a government residence cannot be considered anyone’s personal property and must be vacated as per rules. He added that if the residence is being vacated, the family can shift to their private residence, and the government should take action according to regulations.

The political heat intensified further when the JDU adopted a hard stance against the Lalu-Rabri family, asserting that 10 Circular Road is not just a government residence but a symbol of Bihar’s politics for decades. The process of vacating the bungalow began following a notice issued last month by the Bihar Building Department, ordering Rabri Devi on November 25, 2025, to vacate 10 Circular Road and move to the new government residence at 39 Harding Road.

The night-time shifting of items went viral, raising questions about whether this controversy is merely a political tussle between the ruling and opposition parties or if more serious allegations are hidden beneath the surface.
