The Patna High Court has sharply criticized the Bihar government in a case concerning the provision of security to JDU leader Shishupal Bharti, also known as Shishupal Yadav. During the hearing of a criminal writ petition filed by advocate Deepak Kumar Sinha, Justice Arun Kumar Jha directed the government to submit a detailed affidavit within three weeks.
The petition stated that on November 4, 2019, Chiranjeebi Prasad Yadav, also known as Dhuri Yadav, was shot dead in the Tatarpur area under Urdu Bazar police station in Bhagalpur. The deceased was the elder brother of Shishupal Yadav. According to police reports and local evidence, the murder was carried out by a gang of notorious criminals over a land dispute.
Advocate Sinha told the court that Shishupal Yadav had been provided continuous free bodyguard protection since the incident due to threats to his life. However, the Bihar government recently withdrew the security, citing a shortage of personnel.
The lawyer also highlighted that Shishupal Yadav is a member of the Bihar State Advisory Committee of the JDU and frequently travels across the state for social and political activities. The absence of security personnel, he argued, poses a serious threat to his life. Additionally, the lower court had recently canceled the bail bonds of four accused linked to the petitioner, further escalating the security risk.
The High Court directed the Bihar government to provide a detailed response to all the facts mentioned in the petition. Once the government submits its reply within three weeks, further legal action and decisions regarding the leader’s security arrangements will be taken.
