Asaduddin Owaisi, national president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has expressed his party’s interest in joining the Grand Alliance ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Owaisi has requested only six seats from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for the alliance and stated that the decision now rests with Tejashwi Yadav.
Speaking to the media in Kishanganj, Owaisi said, “We have requested only six seats to join the Grand Alliance. Our Bihar state president, Akhtarul Iman, has sent a letter to Tejashwi Yadav, but we have not received any positive response so far.”
He alleged that if AIMIM is not included in the alliance, it would effectively amount to indirectly supporting the BJP. Owaisi added, “The people of Bihar will see who wants to help the BJP succeed and who wants to stop it.”
AIMIM has a strong presence in the Seemanchal region. In the 2020 Assembly elections, the party won five seats, though four legislators later joined the RJD. Owaisi’s ‘Seemanchal Nyay Yatra’ has been organized to highlight development issues and rights in the region.
Owaisi emphasized that AIMIM’s goal is not to demand ministerial positions within the Grand Alliance but to advocate for equality and development. He also criticized the RJD for not taking any concrete steps to include AIMIM in the alliance.
The focus now shifts to how the RJD responds and whether AIMIM will be able to join the Grand Alliance.
