With the objective of strengthening democratic values and raising awareness among youth about the importance of voting, a comprehensive voter awareness programme was organised at Post Graduate College, Ghazipur, on January 24, 2026, on the occasion of the 16th National Voters’ Day. The programme was conducted under the able guidance of the college Principal, Professor Dr Raghavendra Kumar Pandey. The primary aim of the initiative was to connect young people with the democratic process, instil a sense of civic responsibility, and reinforce the national pledge of “My Bharat, My Vote” at the grassroots level.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students, teachers and members of the college staff. Addressing the gathering, speakers elaborated on the role of voting rights in a democracy, emphasising that voting is not merely a constitutional right but also an essential duty of every conscious citizen. They underlined that free, fearless and informed voting is the cornerstone of a strong and transparent democratic system.
During the academic session, students were provided with practical information on the voter registration process, inclusion of new voters’ names, correction of entries in the electoral roll, and the complete procedure of voting through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). The speakers also highlighted the precautions to be taken during voting, the importance of maintaining secrecy, and the need to remain unaffected by any form of inducement or pressure.
The youth were urged not to confine their participation in this democratic exercise to themselves alone, but to motivate their family members, friends and others in society to exercise their franchise. The speakers noted that active and informed participation of young voters is vital for infusing fresh energy and direction into democracy.
In his presidential address, Principal Dr Raghavendra Kumar Pandey said that the youth are the greatest strength of the nation, and democratic institutions are strengthened only through their active involvement. He added that National Voters’ Day is not merely a formal observance, but an opportunity to internalise civic duties and make democratic values an integral part of everyday life.
In the concluding session, students took a collective pledge to vote freely and fearlessly, safeguard democratic values, and spread voter awareness in society. The college community expressed confidence that such initiatives would further deepen young people’s understanding of democracy, strengthen their sense of responsibility, and encourage active civic engagement.
