Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district has emerged as the frontrunner in science and creativity at the national level. In the latest national ranking of the Government of India’s prestigious INSPIRE (MANAK) Awards, Muzaffarpur secured the top position.

This year, as many as 7,403 students from the district submitted their innovation ideas — the highest number ever recorded from any district in the country. The achievement is being hailed as a matter of pride not just for Muzaffarpur but for the entire state of Bihar.

In the all-India list, Bengaluru Urban (7,306 ideas) ranked second, followed by Bagalkot, Karnataka (6,826 ideas) in third place. Other districts in the top rankings included Jaipur (6,311), Lucknow (6,182), Vaishali (5,805), Hardoi (5,544), Prayagraj (5,507), Pratapgarh (5,380), and Unnao (5,051). Notably, Bihar’s Muzaffarpur and Vaishali both made it to the Top-10.

District Education Officer Kumar Arvind Sinha expressed his delight, saying “Muzaffarpur has brought honor to the entire state of Bihar by securing the first position nationally. This success reflects the talent of our students and the dedication of our teachers. In the coming years, we aim to connect even more children with this initiative.”

The Goal of INSPIRE Scheme

The INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) program is designed to encourage creativity and scientific thinking among schoolchildren.

Students from classes 6 to 10 are eligible to participate.

Selected students receive ₹10,000 in financial support to transform their ideas into working models.

Exhibitions of these models are organized at the district, state, and national levels.

The best 60 innovations are showcased at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the students are personally honored by the President of India.

From Muzaffarpur, the most prominent ideas revolved around water conservation, renewable energy, environmental protection, assistive devices for the differently-abled, and technologies to ease rural life. Experts believe these ideas have the potential to bring transformative changes for both society and the environment.

With Muzaffarpur ranking first and Vaishali sixth, the results highlight the immense creative and innovative potential of Bihar’s children.
