The husband of Uttarakhand Women and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya, Girdhari Lal Sahu, has landed in legal trouble after a court in Muzaffarpur issued him a notice for allegedly making objectionable remarks about girls from Bihar.
Senior advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha had filed a complaint, alleging that Sahu made highly derogatory comments on social media between 2–3 January 2026, stating that “girls in Bihar can be had for ₹20–25 thousand.” The remarks were described as insulting to the dignity of Bihar’s daughters and society at large.
Today, the Additional District Judge (ADJ) First Court in Muzaffarpur took the complaint seriously and issued a notice to Sahu, asking him to respond. The next hearing has been scheduled for 26 February 2026. Advocate Ojha warned that if Sahu fails to respond, the court may proceed with a one-sided hearing.
The controversy erupted when Sahu, during an event, reportedly told a worker “You are not married yet, what will you do in old age? By now, you should have had three or four children. We can get a girl for you from Bihar; in Bihar, they are available for ₹20–25 thousand. Come with me, we’ll arrange your marriage.”
The statement quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. In response to the backlash, Sahu issued a clarification, calling it a joke and apologizing to anyone who felt hurt.
