Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, leaders of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University Students’ Union (MANUU Students’ Union) have urged the INDIA alliance to move beyond mere anti-BJP rhetoric and make social justice, equal representation, and development-oriented politics the core of its agenda.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Faizan Iqbal, former General Secretary of the MANUU Students’ Union, said that in the current political climate, it has become imperative for the INDIA alliance to ensure equal participation of the backward, extremely backward, Dalit, and Muslim communities in the decision-making process.
He said, “The alliance cannot be strengthened merely through slogans and emotions. People now demand concrete policies and honest representation.”
Shagufta Iqbal, former Joint Secretary of the Students’ Union, presented an eight-point proposal before the leaders of the INDIA alliance, particularly Tejashwi Yadav and other top office bearers. She said that if the alliance implements these proposals, it would not only strengthen social balance but also deepen public trust.
Eight-Point Proposal by MANUU Students’ Union
1.Four ‘Justice Documents’:
Separate “Justice Documents” should be prepared for the backward, extremely backward, Dalit, and Muslim communities, outlining concrete measures related to education, employment, economy, security, and dignity.
2.Ensure Muslim Representation:
At least 40 assembly seats should be allotted to Muslim candidates. Dalits, extremely backward communities, and women should also get tickets proportional to their population and support base.
3.Deputy Chief Ministers from Marginalized Groups:
Alongside the Chief Minister, one Deputy Chief Minister each should be from the extremely backward, Dalit, and Muslim communities to ensure genuine power-sharing.
4.Representation for Muslim Women:
Muslim women should be given fair representation in ticket distribution to strengthen their political participation.
Protection of Muslim Seats:
Assembly constituencies that fielded Muslim candidates in the previous election should not be allotted to other communities this time.
6.Muslim Candidates in Every Zone:
At least one Muslim candidate should be fielded from each region—Gaya, Magadh, Munger, and Seemanchal—to prevent vote fragmentation.
7.Concrete Development Roadmap:
A detailed development vision document should be released focusing on education, employment, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and de-addiction.
8.Ideological Declaration:
The INDIA alliance should clearly affirm its commitment to Gandhian, Ambedkarite, Socialist, and Progressive ideologies while taking a firm stand against communal and upper-caste-dominated forces.
Anam Jahan, former Joint Secretary of the Students’ Union, said that if the INDIA alliance confines itself to politics of opposition, it risks losing public confidence. She expressed hope that the alliance leaders would seriously consider these proposals and present a solid, people-oriented policy based on social justice and development.
