Counterfeit Currency Bust in Madhubani: Alleged ‘Laden’ Arrested, Pakistani National Remains Fugitive

With the reopening of the Indo‑Nepal border, smuggling activities in Bihar’s Madhubani district have reportedly increased. In a major move against counterfeit currency operations, the police have arrested Abdul Inam, also known as Laden, marking the fourth significant action by local authorities against fake currency trading in the district.

According to police sources, secret information reached Basopatti police station indicating that Abdul Inam, who had been evading authorities for a long time, was linked to a major counterfeit currency network. Acting on the tip-off, a joint team from Basopatti and Nagar police stations raided his residence in Kotwali Chowk Mohalla and apprehended him. The operation was registered under case number 42/25.

Investigations revealed that Abdul Inam is accused of facilitating the entry of Pakistani national Mohammad Mastan into India and assisting in his illegal operations. Mastan, who was trafficking counterfeit currency into India via Nepal, fled back to Nepal after police warnings, and his whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities continue to search for him.

Basopatti station in-charge Vikas Kumar said Abdul Inam’s arrest could have a significant impact on the counterfeit currency trade in Madhubani, potentially disrupting the supply chain in other districts across Bihar. Police teams are actively pursuing other suspects and the fugitive Pakistani national.

Officials noted that smugglers are taking advantage of the reopened Indo‑Nepal border to conduct illicit activities, easily transporting counterfeit currency across the frontier. Consequently, police have heightened vigilance and intensified investigations in border areas.

Madhubani police are now probing the entire network and are focused on uncovering connections extending to other states. Authorities say the arrest has sent shockwaves through criminal circles and represents a major success in the fight against smuggling.
