Lucknow police have arrested a man from the Nigohan police station area who, for the past two years, had been inducing members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community to convert under the pretext of miraculous healing. The accused has been identified as Malkhan (43), a resident of Baktauri Kheda.
According to police, Malkhan had constructed a hall-like structure on his farmland, which he used as a “church.” He conducted prayer meetings every Sunday and Thursday, claiming to offer miraculous cures. During these sessions, he allegedly lured people into converting by promising relief from illness, financial assistance, and other inducements.
Police said Malkhan has successfully converted at least 15 individuals so far and had created a WhatsApp group called “Yeshu Changai Sabha” to coordinate his activities. Authorities have seized religious literature, baptismal materials, and digital evidence from him.
The case came to light after Bajrang Dal member Dharmendra Sharma filed a complaint, prompting police to register an FIR and launch an investigation. According to DCP (South) Nipun Agrawal, preliminary inquiries indicate that the accused exploited promises of miraculous cures and other inducements to target vulnerable individuals for conversion.
Police plan to question more people in connection with the case to identify other members of the racket and trace its financial sources.
The incident highlights the need for increased awareness and sensitivity toward vulnerable communities to protect them from coercion or deceptive inducements.
