Devastation of Israeli Attacks in Lebanon: Airstrikes on Beirut and Southern Cities, 570+ Civilians Killed, 780,000 Displaced, Hezbollah Launches Retaliatory Rocket Strike, France Sending 60 Tons of Relief Aid

Israel’s relentless airstrikes in Lebanon have caused widespread devastation. In the capital Beirut and the country’s southern and eastern regions, the attacks have so far killed 570 people and injured 1,444.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) and the Ministry of Health, a multi-story building in Beirut’s Aisha Bakkar area was hit. Several families had to be hospitalized. Al Jazeera reported that the attack appeared to be part of a targeted killing, although the building was not in a Hezbollah-controlled area.

In South Lebanon’s Tamnin al-Tahta, seven people were killed and five injured. Meanwhile, a drone strike in Saf al-Hawa, Bint Jbeil, killed three civilians. In Al-Shahabiya, seven people died and 11 were injured. Additionally, one person each was killed in Nabatiyeh and Zalaya, Bekaa.

The attacks also continued in the southern suburbs of Beirut, considered strongholds of Hezbollah. In Hanaweh, in the Tyre district, two airstrikes killed three civilians, including a paramedic. Several people were also injured in attacks in Al-Housh and Zoutar al-Sharqiya.

The Lebanese government reported that approximately 780,000 people have been displaced so far. Most had sought refuge in areas of Beirut considered safe, including Dahieh and other southern regions, but they now face dangerous conditions even there.

Hezbollah carried out a rocket attack on Israeli military positions in the Khiam area of southern Lebanon. The clashes between both sides are ongoing.

As international assistance, France has announced the dispatch of 60 tons of humanitarian aid, including sanitation kits, hygiene kits, mattresses, lamps, and mobile medical posts.

United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric appealed for a ceasefire, stating that almost all civilians in southern Lebanon below the Litani River, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut’s southern suburbs are caught in the war.

According to journalists Zeina Khodr and Hadi Pett, people in central Beirut feel there is “nowhere safe, no front lines.” Many buildings are engulfed in flames, and the damage is extensive.

This war in Lebanon is wreaking havoc on civilian life and is compelling the international community to take immediate action.
