Clashes Erupt at EFLU During Palestine Solidarity March: ABVP Vandalism Sparks Allegations of Police Bias, Students in Fear

Tension erupted on the campus of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad late Tuesday evening after a peaceful Palestine solidarity march organized by the university’s Students’ Union at Sagar Square.

According to sources, soon after the march concluded, ABVP members arrived at the spot, shouting slogans and tearing down Palestine flags and posters. The situation quickly escalated, leading to a tense confrontation between the two groups.

Eyewitnesses said ABVP members manhandled and shoved other students. When the police arrived, they allegedly ignored the vandalism and aggression by ABVP, instead ordering the removal of all Palestine-related materials from the area.

Students claimed that in the presence of the police, ABVP members dragged down a student wearing a Keffiyah, who was later detained by the police.

In protest, students marched toward the university’s main gate, where the situation deteriorated further. Student Union leaders alleged that the police used excessive force, and that male officers misbehaved with female student leaders — including the Union’s Vice President and Joint Secretary — using abusive language and intimidation.

According to one eyewitness, a police officer even brandished a gun while trying to disperse the crowd, causing panic and fear among students.

Later, a heavy police force was deployed across the campus, creating what students described as a “curfew-like atmosphere.” Many were forced back into their hostels and threatened with FIRs.

The student community has condemned the incident as an act of “political bias and state-sponsored repression,” alleging that the police crackdown was an assault on their democratic right to peaceful protest.
