The passing of Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam, Chairman of the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS) and Secretary General of the All India Milli Council, has evoked deep grief across academic, social, and intellectual circles nationwide. His demise is being viewed as an irreparable loss not only to the Muslim community but also to the fields of education, research, and social justice.
In a condolence message, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) National Vice President Mohammad Shafi described Dr. Manzoor Alam as a visionary scholar, institution-builder, and lifelong advocate of education and social justice. He said that under Dr. Alam’s leadership, the Institute of Objective Studies made significant contributions to both fundamental and applied research, encouraging objective studies on social realities, minority issues, and development-related challenges.
He noted that under Dr. Alam’s guidance, IOS emerged as a respected intellectual platform that promoted dialogue based on knowledge, ethics, and facts among scholars, thinkers, and policymakers. One of his most notable contributions in the field of education, he said, was building a bridge between traditional and modern education. Dr. Alam was a strong proponent of the modernization of madrasas, while simultaneously emphasizing the preservation of their moral and intellectual traditions.
As Secretary General of the All India Milli Council, Dr. Manzoor Alam played a key role in articulating community-related issues through democratic and constitutional means, while strengthening social unity, restraint, and dialogue. He firmly believed that no society could progress without education, dialogue, and constructive engagement.
The condolence message further stated that Dr. Manzoor Alam’s life was a symbol of humility, intellectual seriousness, and an unwavering commitment to justice, inclusion, and national development. While his passing has left a void that will be difficult to fill, his ideas, institutions, and work will continue to inspire future generations.
Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, students, and all those influenced by him, Mohammad Shafi said that Dr. Manzoor Alam’s legacy would continue to guide the nation and society on the path of knowledge, reform, and social harmony.
