Dalit Farmer Beaten to Death by Intoxicated Neighbors and Relatives in Kanpur Dehat; Six Arrested

A tragic incident has come to light in Malikpur village, where a Dalit farmer was brutally beaten by his neighbors and their relatives while allegedly intoxicated, leading to his death during treatment. Following the attack, tensions escalated in the village, prompting authorities to deploy a heavy police force to maintain law and order.

According to police, 50-year-old Devkinandan Paswan was attacked on Sunday evening by his neighbor, Govind Singh, and members of his family. The group reportedly arrived at Paswan’s home in an inebriated state and started hurling abuses over a minor dispute. When Devkinandan and his wife Mamta resisted, the confrontation escalated, and both were severely assaulted.

During the attack, Devkinandan’s daughter, Gomti, attempted to record the incident on her mobile phone, but the accused snatched the device and threw it away. The victims were rushed to a local hospital and later referred to Kanpur due to the severity of their injuries. Devkinandan’s condition worsened, and he succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening. His wife remains under treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Shivli police immediately registered an FIR. While the case initially involved assault, it has now been upgraded to a murder case following Devkinandan’s death. Police have arrested six individuals, including the main accused Govind Singh, his wife, and other relatives, and presented them in court.

Given Malikpur’s mixed population, authorities have deployed additional police personnel to prevent any untoward incidents. Local officials stated that the situation is currently under control and that strict action will continue against all the accused.

This incident comes amid growing concerns over attacks on Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, where several violent incidents against the community have been reported in recent months.
