In support of the nationwide campaign to protect the environment, CPI (ML) held a strong protest today in front of Buddha Smriti Park in Patna. The demonstration aimed to raise public awareness against handing over critical forests and mountains—such as the Aravalli, Great Nicobar, Himalayas, and Hasdeo Aranya—to big corporates and the consequent destruction of natural resources.
CPI (ML) Politburo member Meena Tiwari alleged that the Modi government is working not for the people of the country but in the interests of major corporates like Adani and Ambani. She further charged that the government, under the guise of the “Ease of Doing Business” policy, is putting forests, mountains, and the climate at serious risk.
Former MLA Mahboob Alam said that across the country, water, forests, and land are being handed over to big corporates, while the public is raising their voices against it. Highlighting projects such as the Char Dham highway in Uttarakhand and the Great Nicobar swap project, he called these initiatives “environmental deception.”
Alam added that 130 square kilometers of natural tropical forest in Great Nicobar has been destroyed, while reforestation efforts are being showcased in Haryana’s Aravalli region, which exists in a completely different ecological and climatic zone.
The program was chaired by CPI (ML) city secretary Jitendra Kumar. Senior party leaders KD Yadav, social activist Ashrafi Sada, AISA leader Kumar Divyam, Central Committee member Saroj Chaubey, Shehzade Alam, Sanjay Yadav, Shambunath Mehta, Anuradha, Rakhi Mehta, AISA leader Saba, cultural activist Pramod Yadav, RYA leader Vinay Kumar, and employee leader Rambali Prasad, along with dozens of party workers, participated in the protest.
CPI (ML) reiterated its resolve not to tolerate any interference with the environment and demanded that the government immediately halt the implementation of the new definition of Aravalli.
