Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the CPI(ML) Liberation, a constituent of the Mahagathbandhan, has finalized 18 of its seats and announced their candidates, while discussions are still ongoing for the remaining constituencies. The party is expected to contest a total of 21 seats, though analysts suggest the final number may likely be limited to 19.
There is significant pressure from Muslim social leaders and activists for the Aurai Assembly seat to be allocated to CPI(ML) and for Aftab Alam to be fielded as the candidate. This issue has sparked continuous discussions among Muslim leaders and social activists across Bihar.
Mustaqim Siddiqui, an active social and political activist and coordinator of ‘Sangharsh Samvad,’ said, “The question is directed at CPI(ML) Liberation, Bihar, i.e., the party itself — but the responsibility for the answer also lies with Tejashwi Yadav and RJD. If a seat belongs to CPI(ML), why is RJD eyeing it? A coalition is not just about seat arithmetic; it is also about trust.”
He warned that ignoring leaders like Aftab Alam, who have strong grassroots recognition, would not only be a loss of a candidate but would also cast a shadow over the credibility of the entire Mahagathbandhan.
Siddiqui further added, “The people of Aurai are watching closely — this is not just an assembly seat but a test of the coalition’s integrity. If trust is overlooked, the loss won’t be limited to a single candidate but will affect the credibility of the entire INDIA coalition.”
