A statewide protest day was observed today against the life imprisonment and ₹50,000 fine imposed by the Gopalganj District Court on CPI(Maoist) state committee member and RYA state president Jitendra Paswan and Shriram Kushwaha in a alleged murder case. The program was organized under the joint banner of CPI(Maoist) and RYA.
At a gathering held at Buddha Smriti Park in the state capital Patna, leaders described the verdict as politically motivated and unjust. They claimed that Jitendra Paswan had narrowly lost the 2020 Assembly elections from Bhore constituency by only 400 votes, and that the case was fabricated following his electoral defeat.
Speakers at the event warned that the trend of suppressing opposition voices and curbing democratic rights posed a serious threat to democracy. They also stated that the statewide movement against the verdict would be intensified.
The program was addressed by several leaders, including KD Yadav, Saroj Chaubey, former leader of the legislative party Mahboob Alam, Kumar Parvez, Ranvijay Kumar, and Pramod Yadav. The meeting was chaired by city secretary Jitendra Kumar, while the proceedings were conducted by RYA Patna district coordinator Vinay Kumar.
A large number of party workers attended the program. In addition to Patna, protest events were also held in Jehanabad, Gopalganj, Arwal, Ara, and Gaya districts.
