In Churu district of Rajasthan, a dispute broke out on Sunday in Sadasar village over the entry of a Dalit youth and his companions into a temple, after which they were allegedly beaten. The incident occurred in the evening following a religious procession that concluded with a “Bhagwat Katha” event. After the procession, Kanaram Meghwal and his companions went to the temple for darshan, but some villagers stopped them and denied entry based on caste.

According to Kanaram Meghwal’s complaint, the accused villagers verbally abused and physically assaulted them because of their caste. He also alleged that the accused threatened them, saying, “No Dalit will be allowed to enter the temple.” Following the incident, members of the Dalit community staged a protest outside the local police station on Monday.

Churu District Deputy Superintendent of Police, Satyanarayan Godara, stated that the dispute arose due to a crowd at the temple. He added that an argument between the two sides escalated the matter. Police have registered a case against the accused, who remain absconding.

The incident highlights issues of caste discrimination and social bias, particularly prevalent in rural areas. The local administration has initiated a probe into the matter, and efforts to apprehend the accused are ongoing.

The incident has sparked outrage among the Dalit community, who are demanding justice. Local leaders and social organizations have also expressed their intention to intervene in the case.
