Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday announced that the state government has expanded the scope of the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana to include unemployed graduates.
Under the new provision, men and women between the ages of 20 and 25 who have completed their graduation in Arts, Science, or Commerce—and who are neither pursuing further studies, nor employed in government or private jobs, nor engaged in self-employment—will receive a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 for up to two years.
The Chief Minister said the aim of the scheme is to encourage young people to prepare for competitive examinations and undergo skill training so that they can secure jobs and become self-reliant. He added that the government has set a target of providing employment opportunities to one crore youth in both government and private sectors over the next five years.
The scheme, introduced in 2016 under the Saat Nishchay Programme, was earlier limited to unemployed youth who had passed their intermediate (Class 12). With the inclusion of graduates, a much larger section of educated unemployed youth is expected to benefit.
Nitish Kumar expressed confidence that this step would help secure the future of Bihar’s youth and make them more employment-oriented.
