A delegation of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) met Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and held detailed discussions on the issues related to uploading Waqf properties on the UMEED portal. The delegation also submitted a memorandum seeking an extension of at least one year in the deadline for uploading these properties.

The delegation informed the minister that severe technical difficulties are being faced across the country in uploading registered Waqf properties to the portal. It was pointed out that lakhs of properties still remain unuploaded due to recurring technical glitches. AIMPLB stated that the responsibility of uploading pre-registered properties should have been entrusted to the respective Waqf Boards, and that more time was essential for the task.

The Board further emphasized that the six-month timeline prescribed under Section 3B of the UMEED Act was practically too short. The delegation noted that Waqf Boards in several states—such as Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan—had to approach tribunals for an extension, which clearly shows that completing the process within the stipulated time amid persistent technical hurdles was nearly impossible.

AIMPLB also argued that although the portal was launched on 6 June 2025, the UMEED Rules were notified only on 3 July 2025, and the required guidelines and forms for uploading were issued on the same day. Therefore, counting the six-month period from the portal’s launch date, the Board contended, was unreasonable.

The delegation urged that the initial deadline provided under the Act should be extended by at least one year. The Board added that such an extension would significantly reduce the need for approaching tribunals in the future.

During the meeting, Minister Kiren Rijiju listened to the concerns attentively and assured the delegation that appropriate solutions would be explored soon.
