“RSS Is Not About Politics, But a Movement for Individual Development”: Mohan Bhagwat’s Key Message on 100 Years, Advocates 50% Participation of Women

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat emphasized that the organization does not engage in “Hindutva politics.” Instead, its core mission is to strengthen society and the nation through individual development.

Addressing the program ‘Sangh Yatra – New Horizons, New Dimensions’, Bhagwat stated, “The Sangh’s goal is not to gain political power. Our aim is to create individuals who are principled, capable, and committed to the nation. When the individual is strong, society and the nation will naturally be strong.”

He noted that while many perceive the RSS as a paramilitary or service organization, it is in fact a broad social force. “The Sangh works in every sphere of society. It is not appropriate to understand it in a limited way,” he said.

Bhagwat also clarified that the RSS should not be linked to any political party. Although political analysts associate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the Sangh’s ideological foundation, he reiterated that the Sangh’s work goes beyond politics.

Highlighting India’s global role, he said, “The world looks to India for leadership. While the world often values power over truth, it is necessary to acquire power, but it must be exercised with restraint and ethics.”

He urged Sangh volunteers to spread the message of social harmony and organization across all sections of society.

On women’s participation, Bhagwat emphasized that their role in governance and policymaking should not be limited to 33%. “If society is half men and half women, 50% participation in decision-making is natural,” he said.

Addressing issues such as reservation, classification, and a uniform civil code, he appealed for honest dialogue and a constructive approach. He stressed that rising above divisive thinking to unite society constitutes true national service. “Those who work to unite society are true Hindus,” he added.

Bhagwat also highlighted environmental protection as a national responsibility, citing the conservation of rivers in Uttarakhand and emphasizing coordinated efforts between local communities and government.

This statement, delivered on the occasion of the Sangh’s centenary, is being seen as significant in both political and social circles. The RSS chief reiterated that the organization’s mission goes beyond politics, focusing on individual development, social unity, and strengthening national consciousness.
