The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has questioned the Government of India’s response following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israeli airstrikes. The party described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence as a “serious diplomatic lapse.”
In a statement issued on behalf of the party, SDPI National President M. K. Faizy said the development has sharply escalated tensions in West Asia and heightened fears of a wider regional conflict. He warned that the fallout could impact global stability, energy security, and the safety of Indian expatriates residing in Gulf countries.
Faizy alleged that India’s official response was limited to a general appeal for restraint. According to him, the statement neither explicitly referred to the reported killing nor acknowledged its gravity. At a time of mounting international concern, he said, India must adopt a clear and principled position.
The SDPI president strongly condemned the alleged joint military action by the United States and Israel against Iran, terming it a grave violation of Iran’s sovereignty. He said such actions contravene international law and the principles of the United Nations, and risk further destabilising the region.
He maintained that war and military aggression cannot resolve disputes. Such strikes, he said, undermine diplomatic efforts and endanger innocent civilian lives. Faizy called upon the international community to intervene immediately to ensure a ceasefire and uphold respect for national sovereignty.
Reiterating support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and freedom, he said policies based on the use of force and collective punishment only deepen injustice and instability in the region. He stressed the need for a just and lasting solution.
The SDPI urged the Central Government to take proactive diplomatic steps to safeguard Indian citizens abroad and to clearly reaffirm its commitment to justice, dialogue and peace in international relations.
