In Kaimur district, a violent clash broke out late Wednesday night between police and villagers in Kazhar Ghat Tola under the Kudra Police Station limits over an alleged liquor party. One person sustained a bullet injury in the incident, while several police personnel were reportedly hurt in stone-pelting.
Angry residents blocked the Kudra–Bhabua main road on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic for several hours.
According to the police, a party was allegedly organised to celebrate the bail of a youth who had been arrested about 15 days ago. The event reportedly involved a DJ, dancers and liquor. As prohibition is in force in Bihar, police said they received information about illegal activities and reached the spot to verify the inputs.
Police officials claimed that as soon as the team arrived, the crowd turned violent and began pelting stones. They also alleged that some individuals opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence. One person suffered a gunshot injury and is undergoing treatment. According to the injured man’s statement, he was shot from behind. An investigation is underway.
Villagers, however, accused the police of entering homes and assaulting women, children and the elderly. They alleged that doors were broken and vehicles damaged. A woman claimed she was beaten with batons when she protested.
In protest, hundreds of villagers staged a road blockade from around 6 am on Thursday by placing bamboo barricades on the main road, leaving several passenger and goods vehicles stranded. Mohania Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ratna Priyadarshini and DSP Pradeep Kumar reached the spot and appealed to protesters to clear the road. Officials assured that lawful action would be taken upon receiving written complaints.
Police have registered a case against 28 named individuals and 50 unidentified persons. So far, 13 arrests have been confirmed. Authorities said the matter is being thoroughly investigated and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area as a precaution, and the administration said the situation is being closely monitored.
